Welcome.
From the Headboy – Marcus Dowdeswell
After my first day at Glyn in Year 7, I knew that it was the school for me. The strong community feeling that the school has enabled me to feel welcome and part of the school almost immediately. This is achieved by the friendliness of the older students and the sheer commitment and drive for every student to succeed, shown by each and every member of staff.
The vast number of opportunities and extra-curricular activities that are available here at Glyn means that every student has the chance to participate in the clubs and teams that they enjoy. I believe that this equality and diversity, that the school encourages, makes it the outstanding and enjoyable working environment that it is.
My experience at Glyn, both in the classroom and the sports field, have taught me valuable life skills that will stand me in good stead for further education and the rest of my life.
From the Deputy Headboy – Ziggy Emovon
Glyn is a school rooted upon virtuous and traditional principals which are inherently present in the way it carries out its daily functions. What I have experienced since I came in 2003 is how these principals nurture an environment of mutual respect, inclusion and, ultimately, happiness. In addition, its plethora of extra-curricular opportunities in academia and sport provide opportunities where students can really display and further their talents. I have the great fortune to learn from teachers that bring out the very best qualities of their chosen subjects and consequently I expect to achieve the very highest A-Level results, and subsequently compete for the very best universities. I have also experienced the sheer scale of improvement that the school has made throughout my time here, which inevitably culminated in its new ‘outstanding’ Ofsted rating. Yet despite this, there is still the urgency to build and improve on past achievements. I remembered when I was in Year 6 thinking that Glyn was ‘the place to be’, with everything else in mind; I am fully confident that this remains the case for current Year 6 students.
From the Deputy Headboy – Alex Brady
I am proud to be a member of Glyn Technology School, a school which can provide and cater for any students’ needs. The facilities available are of the highest quality and the staff are always there to challenge and motivate. Throughout my time at the school I have had the good fortune to be tested and pushed to meet and surpass my potential. The large amount of extra-curricular activities on offer are another way in which all years are encouraged to participate, with students of any level of ability regularly facing tough opposition from around the country. In my case I have represented the school at rugby since I began at Glyn; the coaching and the sport itself has certainly helped shape my character. For these reasons, I had no other place in mind when it came to choosing a sixth form as I knew Glyn and its staff would best prepare me for what the future holds.
From the Headteacher – Jon Chaloner
Marcus, Ziggy and Alex have given just a flavour of what we can offer here at Glyn. The school continues to go from to strength with record-breaking GCSE and A level results in 2009.
