The Meaning of Careers Education Guidance. (Abridged Version)
Careers Education and Guidance is an integral part of the preparation of pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life. Pupils are engaged in the delivery of Careers Education Guidance through consultation with representatives at School Council Meetings, the Careers focus group and the delivery of Careers Education Guidance at various stages of the Curriculum (Connexions and external agencies). Careers Education Guidance’s central concern is preparing our pupils for the choices, changes and transitions affecting their future education, training and life as adult members of society. It identifies the need for Key skills and relates these to the working environment particularly through Enterprise activities. It promotes equality and equal opportunities. Careers education guidance emphasizes the need for pupils to know themselves better, to be aware of their education, training and employment opportunities, to make informed choices and to manage change in their lives through the setting of objectives and goals. It promotes successful career development and guidance and help individuals make choices, which are realistic and ambitious so raising pupils aspirations and expectations so that they may meet their potential. Careers education focuses on the three main aims as stated in the Dfes publication ‘Careers Education and Guidance’ a National Framework 11-19.

Work Experience Policy
All pupils at Glyn are offered a two-week work experience placement in year 11 towards the end of the Autumn term where it is believed that pupils will sample a working environment and develop new skills. It aims for pupils to develop their careers aims and ambitions and get them thinking about their future. Pupils will experience the difference between a school environment and one of work. They will work with a range of people with differing ages and pupils will develop a greater self-confidence. It is believed that through completing work experience pupils will gain a greater understanding of business and enterprise skills.
The school liases with Trident an external agency that finds and checks the health and safety of placements. All firms should have both Public liability cover and employers liability cover.
Work experience documentation is issued so that pupils can find their own work experience. Pupils can ask Trident to find them one of their allocated choices.
All documentation has to be handed in by the date set on the initial letter otherwise a pupil’s placement may be affected.
